Round Rock, TX, August 16, 2010 – Unity Park Community Garden in Round Rock will host a ribbon
cutting ceremony to kick off the fall gardening season, the most productive time of year to garden in
Central Texas. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, August 28 at the new garden located at
2746 Gattis School Road in Round Rock. The event is free and open to public and will include local
grown organic food and garden tours.
The ceremony will also mark the receipt of a $1,000 Fiskars’ Project Orange Thumb grant which also
includes a set of Fiskars garden tools. Selected from among hundreds of community gardens, Unity Park
Community Garden is one of 20 within the U.S. and Canada to receive the grant The Fiskars grant has
awarded nearly $1 million in contributions and supported over 115 community groups since 2002.
“Fiskars is happy to be able to help support something that communities can utilize and sustain for years
to come,” said Fiskars President Paul Tonnesen. “We hope that projects like the Unity Park Community
Garden inspire groups across the U.S. and Canada to create their own special community spaces.”
The Unity Park Community Garden is sponsored by the Neighborhood Harvest Project, a local non-profit
founded by Round Rock residents to support local food and sustainable living. With more than 42 garden
plots for rent of various sizes, many are currently available for fall planting for a low seasonal or annual
rate.’’
